Jose Mourinho makes surprising Zinedine Zidane claim

Real Madrid have got the “right man for the job” with Zinedine Zidane, claims former boss Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho believes Zidane returning to the Madrid marks a fresh start for both the manager and the players.

But the 56-year-old believes Zidane will need to be busy in the summer transfer window if he is going to turn around the fortunes of the club for next season.

Mourinho, who has been out of work since he was fired as the boss of Manchester United in December, was linked with the job himself before Zidane was reinstated for his second spell as manager.

"This is the start of a new era for both him and the players," Mourinho said in an interview with Canal Plus France.

"He has to come in and build a new team."

"He has to bring in new players and also oversee the exit of others."

"He will have to leave his mark."

"I believe he is the right man for the job."

Mourinho knows what it takes to manage Los Blancos having spent three years at the club between 2010 and 2013.

During his spell he won the Copa del Rey in his first year and added an La Liga title and the Spanish Super Cup in his second year.

However, the Portuguese manager conceded Zidane has already achieved what nobody else has managed to do at the club.

"I think it is too early to talk about his career at Real Madrid," Mourinho said,

"But in this short space of time he has won what nobody else has managed to do, which is three consecutive Champions Leagues."

Zidane was re-instated as Real’s manager for his second stint at the club only 284 days after his surprise resignation.

The Frenchman was brought back to Real after their season pretty much ended following their 4-1 humiliation by Ajax in the Champions League, which saw them lose 5-3 on aggregate and crash out in the last 16.

Former Real boss Santiago Solari knew he was on borrowed time as before the Ajax loss, with their La Liga campaign effectively already over and having been knocked out of the Copa del Rey by Barcelona.

Zidane oversaw a comfortable 2-0 victory over Celta Vigo in his first game since his return, but with only 10 league games remaining in the season it is unlikely they will overcome the 12-point gap to league leaders Barcelona.
