Transfer rumours

Paul Pogba’s brother backs Real Madrid switch and says he’ll move to Spain if he gets the chance

Paul Pogba ‘would be great for Real Madrid’, his brother Mathias has claimed while discussing the Man United star’s potential transfer to Spain.

The Red Devils midfielder has been linked with a big-money move to the Bernabeu throughout the summer as Zinedine Zidane is a huge fan of his.

An Old Trafford exit looked on the cards when, in June, Pogba admitted ‘it could be time for a new challenge’.

But with less than a week left until the European transfer window closes, it is unlikely Real Madrid will match United’s £150million asking price to sign the midfielder.

When asked if Pogba was frustrated at failing to secure his ‘dream’ move to the Bernabeu, Mathias told Spanish outlet AS: "No. He’s fine, like always."

"Nobody should expect him to say anything bad about United.  He’s a professional and that’s where he is right now."

"His future? That depends on the clubs."

"Manchester need to want to sell and Madrid need to want to buy. That’s how business works."

"Everyone knows my brother would be great for Real Madrid and Zinedine Zidane. It’s Real Madrid and Manchester United who need to talk."

Mathias, who joined Spanish fourth tier club Manchego earlier this summer, has tipped his brothers to play in Spain one day – saying Paul will move to the country if he gets the opportunity.

The third Pogba brother, Florentin, is currently plying his trade for MLS club Atlanta United.

Mathias added: "No doubt before our careers are over we’ll get together in the same country. Hopefully it’ll be Spain."

"It might be this season, but it doesn’t depend just on us. If Flo and Paul get the chance, they’ll come. If not, they’ve got contracts with their clubs."

It has been an eventful start to the season for Paul Pogba, who registered two assists in United’s opening-day win over Chelsea.

However, he was subjected to racial abuse on social media after missing a penalty in a 1-1 draw with Wolves last week.
