Court orders Real Madrid to pay €1.5m+ to player – Harmed reputation with contract termination

Real Madrid have been ordered by a Spanish court to pay €1.5m+ to former player Francisco Manuel Tena.

The midfielder joined Madrid Castilla from Sevilla’s youth ranks on a free transfer back in 2016 but ended up making just 22 appearances for the club as injuries limited his game time.

That led to Madrid electing to terminate his contract last summer, a decision Mundo Deportivo report Tena felt had ‘some irregularities’.

He elected to take them to court over the decision, and they have now ruled in his favour, ordering Real Madrid pay compensation to their former employee.

The Social Chamber of the Court of Madrid fully upheld his appeal and have ordered the club to pay €1.5m in damages, plus two years back pay in wages.

The latter amounts to €61,666.68 as Tena’s contract was worth €15,416.67 a month.

The extra compensation is because of the damage done to the player’s reputation and prospects because of his release.

Before the sentence is enforced, Real Madrid have ten days to appeal the decision passed down, although it is not stated whether they will do so at this point.
