Real Madrid ready to end Paul Pogba transfer pursuit and focus on Kylian Mbappe move

Real Madrid chiefs are reportedly only willing to sanction a move for the Manchester United midfielder if they need to keep boss Zinedine Zidane happy.

Real Madrid are reportedly ready to end their pursuit of Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba.

Pogba has been constantly linked with a move to the La Liga giants with Real boss Zinedine Zidane known to be keen.

But having tried all summer to work out a deal, with Manchester United requesting a high fee, it's been claimed that Los Blancos are ready to turn their attention elsewhere.

Spanish outlet AS report that Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe will now be made a priority with Florentino Perez's sights set firmly on the Frenchman.

The report adds that Perez is keen not to waste time and money in January having spent big in the summer.

The likes of Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic and Rodrygo all made the move to the Bernabeu as Real Madrid looked to rebuild following a disappointing campaign last time out.

And, while AS claim there are coaches at Real who believe the squad could be strengthened more in January, Perez's main goal is reportedly to lay the groundwork to sign Mbappe in the summer.

This is likely to be good news to Manchester United fans, with many expecting Pogba to have departed during the summer.

Juventus were also keen on re-signing the World Cup winner who has struggled to find his form that saw United pay £89million to take him back to Old Trafford in 2016.

Pogba has regularly hinted that he is eager to leave United though boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists he wants the star to stay.

The boss recently said: "I don't listen to the president of Real Madrid [Florentino Perez]."

"But Paul is working hard here and he is totally committed to Manchester United."

"We have seen that while he's been injured. He has been working like crazy to get himself fit because he wants to play for us and he wants to help his team-mates."

"I am not worried now and I will never be worried in the future about Paul Pogba staying here."

"If it all kicks off against with Madrid in January then there will be no worries then either. If we have to live with the speculation again then we will handle it like we did in the summer."

"Paul is going nowhere. He is happy here when he's playing."
