Real Madrid want Achraf Hakimi to be part of their first team squad next season despite concerns over his playing time, according to Diario AS.
The defender has spent the last two seasons out on loan at Borussia Dortmund, where he has developed into one of Europe's most dangerous full-backs.
His form in Germany has caught the eye of Zinedine Zidane, who is keen to include him in his plans for the 2020-21 campaign.
However, AS claim that the club are wary of interrupting Hakimi's development if he fails to get enough minutes next term.
Dani Carvajal is Zidane's first choice right back and there would be no guarantee of playing time for Hakimi should he return to the Bernabeu.
Speaking earlier this season, the 21-year-old said: "I cannot lie, of course I would like to succeed in Madrid, it is my home. But if it is not, I will try to succeed elsewhere. That is my dream."
Hakimi has played 65 games on loan at Dortmund since the start of last season and has 10 goals and 17 assists to his name so far.
The Bundesliga outfit had hoped to sign him permanently, but interest from clubs in England and Real's desire to bring him back have all but ended their pursuit.
AS say that Hakimi could sign a new contract with Los Blancos before going out on loan again, or the club could look to sell him with a buy-back clause included.
