Real Madrid superstar inching closer to Manchester City move

Sergio Ramos is regarded as one of the most influential and impactful center-backs of his generation and Manchester City wants him.

Manchester City have been keeping a close eye on the developing situation at Real Madrid. Sergio Ramos is in the final year of his contract and it expires on June 30. The Spaniard is free to negotiate a pre-transfer agreement with any club that might provide him with a suitable offer. Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are the two clubs that are said to be favorites to land the 34-year-old. Ramos has failed to reach an agreement with Real Madrid and Manchester City are closely monitoring the situation, as per ESPN.

Let’s face it.

Sergio Ramos has spent 15 years at Real Madrid and it is hard to believe that there won’t be a compromise of any sorts from either of the parties. The problem stands at the wage being offered to the Real Madrid skipper. The 34-year-old wants a spike in his wages but with the current financial situation, Real Madrid are unable to comply with the player’s request. Manchester City on the other hand are well-positioned to afford his wage demands, given that they will not be paying any transfer fee to land the Spaniard.

The most likely outcome of this saga is that Sergio Ramos will end up staying at the Santiago Bernabeu. Having said that, the Sky Blues are not really in need of having the likes of Sergio Ramos in the line-up as the defense has been rock-solid this season. At the center of the backline, the options available for Pep are Nathan Ake, John Stones, Reuben Dias, and Aymeric Laporte. Sergio Ramos would just deepen the sense of competition for a spot in the backline.

The Cityzens are closely linked with Lionel Messi and the former Premier League champions must be ready to seize any opportunity that may come along their way. Affording both, Ramos’ and Messi’s astronomically high wages might prove to be an issue for the Sky Blues. If the Cityzens are eager to land Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos should not be a priority.
