Robert Lewandowski keen on joining Real Madrid

Robert Lewandowski is reportedly prioritising a move to Real Madrid and could request a move away from Bayern Munich next summer.

According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Real Madrid have been handed a major boost in pursuit of Robert Lewandowski. The Polish goal machine could ask for a move away from Bayern Munich in next summer’s transfer window, with Real Madrid being his priority destination.

Robert Lewandowski joined Bayern Munich from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2014 and has since taken his career to an entirely new level. Still at the peak of his powers, the 33-year-old has been playing the best football of his career in the last couple of years.

The Polish international has started the 2021/22 season strongly as well, with 13 goals and an assist to show for his efforts in just 10 appearances so far. However, in recent times, there has been a sense that Lewandowski is edging closer to leaving Bayern, with reports claiming that he is keen on seeking a new adventure. Such a development has alerted Real Madrid.

Real Madrid’s priority is to sign another Bundesliga based striker in Erling Haaland. However, the Borussia Dortmund goal machine is being tailed by a number of other top clubs across Europe, which is why the Merengues need to keep their options open.

With that in mind, Lewandowski is viewed as a viable alternative for Real Madrid to consider. Having said that, signing someone like the Polish hitman might be a counterproductive move, seeing as Karim Benzema, who is also 33, is playing at a similar level as him if not better at the moment.

So, unless the plan is to shift to a two-striker system, it is hard to see how Lewandowski and Benzema will be able to coexist. However, Real Madrid have now been handed a major boost in pursuit of the Bayern Munich superstar, whose priority is to join Los Blancos if he does leave the Bundesliga champions next summer.

What now remains to be seen is if Real Madrid end up firming up their interest in the 33-year-old goal machine or if he stays put at Allianz Arena. For now, what is certain is that Real Madrid will hold an advantage in the race to sign Lewandowski if he does intent to call it quits at Bayern Munich next year.
