Real Madrid superstar close to signing new contract

While Barcelona have broken the bank in hopes of stopping their slide, Real Madrid have been a picture of calm this summer.

Los Blancos have brought in just Antonio Rudiger and Aurelien Tchouameni. While both big additions to the squad, it is safe to say that fans were expecting a much more frantic window, after the club had been linked with the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.

Yet, one has to consider Real Madrid as the favourites to retain their La Liga title and one of the top contenders for the Champions League once again, thanks to the incredible squad that the club already have.

Thus, it is important that they hold onto this squad and it looks like they have taken a huge step in making sure that Karim Benzema’s future remains at Santiago Bernabeu.

As reported by Marca, the renewal of Benzema’s contract is getting closer and the striker’s continuity until 2024 will be announced shortly.

Benzema is the focal point of this team and inspired Real Madrid to the Champions League last season. The Frenchman seems to be getting better with age.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 44 goals and provided 15 assists in 46 appearances for Real Madrid last season. 15 of those goals came in the Champions League.

Thus, at 34 years of age, Benzema is in the form of his life and is the heavy favourite to win the Ballon d’Or. If he does, he will become the third Real Madrid player to win the award since 2008, after Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric. The only other player to have won it during that period of time, a certain Lionel Messi.

Thus, keeping Benzema at the club would definitely be the right decision, especially with the lack of firepower up front for Real Madrid. Any injury to the Frenchman could derail their entire season and they would be smart to bring in some cover before the transfer window slams shut.
