Real Madrid need to strengthen all across the pitch.
There are several gaps in the squad and a clear lack of depth. Right-back is a position of worry for Los Blancos at this point of time. Dani Carvajal is 31 years of age and clearly no longer the player that he was in his prime. On the other hand, there is no real cover to the Spaniard.
Both Nacho Fernandez and Lucas Vazquez are older than Carvajal. On the other hand, Alvaro Odriozola has barely featured and is expected to be on his way out of the club in the summer. So, there is no clear long-term solution for Real Madrid at right-back.
As a result, the club could do with another right-back in the near future. And one player that they have been heavily linked with is Reece James of Chelsea.
Now, there is no doubt that James is an immense talent. On his day, one could argue that he is the best right-back in the world. He has come up against players like Vinicius Junior and Rafael Leao in the past, and come out on top. But there is one major issue when it comes to the Chelsea superstar.
James has been dealing with a number of injuries in recent times. He has already spent several spells out on the sidelines this season and now, it looks like a latest injury is set to rule him out for the rest of the season.
As reported by BBC, Frank Lampard said.
"Reece James will be unavailable for the rest of the season, Mason Mount the same."
Of course, there is no doubt that James is a fantastic talent. But Real Madrid must be careful, when it comes to a player who looks injury-prone at just 23 years of age.
No matter how good you are, injuries can derail a career. Just look at how things have turned out for Eden Hazard since swapping Chelsea for Real Madrid.
