With the group stages of the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League set to kick off in a short time, draws to place teams in groups took place today in Monaco.
Real Madrid were placed in Pot 2 of the draw, having failed to retain the La Liga and UEFA Champions League titles last season, and as such were staring at a tricky match-up.
The Merengues were alongside Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid, FC Porto, Borussia Dortmund, Manchester United, and Arsenal in Pot 2, meaning they would not be drawn against any of them.
Barcelona and Sevilla, who were in Pot 1, were also not in question as teams from the same league cannot be paired together in the group stage. It leaves Los Blancos with Manchester City, PSG, Bayern Munich, SL Benfica, Feyenoord, and Napoli as possible opponents from Pot 1.
It is Napoli who were drawn against the Merengues in Group C.
Portuguese outfit SC Braga were allocated in the same group as Real Madrid from Pot 3.
Finally from Pot 4, Carlo Ancelotti’s men were drawn against German newcomers Union Berlin.
Draw in full:
Group A: Bayern Munich, Manchester United, FC Copenhagen, Galatasaray
Group B: Sevilla, Arsenal, PSV, RC Lens
Group C: Napoli, Real Madrid, SC Braga, Union Berlin.
Group D: Benfica, Inter, RB Salzburg, Real Sociedad
Group E: Feyenoord, Atletico Madrid, Lazio, Celtic
