Real Madrid president Florentino Perez could miss out on his 2030 goal

As one of football’s biggest institutions, Real Madrid understandably have goals beyond just results on the field.

Utilising their stadium to host high-profile events, on that front, has been a recurring goal for Los Blancos.

Real Madrid have invested massively into the renovation of Santiago Bernabeu and transformed it into a state-of-the-art stadium with a retractable roof and ring LED lights.

According to Defensa Central, Florentino Perez had a specific objective in mind concerning the Bernabeu that he hoped to complete in 2030, which now appears complicated.

Spain, Portugal and Morocco will co-host the 2030 edition of the FIFA World Cup. It is thus unsurprising that Spanish clubs are bustling with excitement, for their stadiums could play a big role in hosting the event.

As the biggest footballing nation of the three, Spain was expected to have the leading voice in deciding venues for the semi-final and the final. The Bernabeu, nestled in the Spanish capital, was thus a serious candidate to host the World Cup final.

It has been Perez’s dream for time immemorial to host the World Cup finale at Real Madrid’s facility in 2030, but it now appears complicated after Morocco’s change of mind.

As relayed by the Spanish outlet, the African nation is now prepared to fight for the privilege of hosting the grand finale.

They propose the plan of developing a mega-stadium for the event, one that can rival the Bernabeu as a worthy host for the tournament’s biggest game.

Morrocco argue that they have never hosted a World Cup and thus deserve the chance to host the final. Spain, they argue, have already enjoyed both privileges in the past.

It thus remains to be seen what is finalised between the three co-hosts, but as it stands, it will be complicated for the Bernabeu to host the magical Night.
