Real Madrid midfielder targets comeback from injury against Espanyol

Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga is in the final phase of his recovery from an ankle injury he sustained in August.

That much was confirmed by manager Xabi Alonso this past weekend, when he said: "Eduardo is at a similar stage to Jude, he can almost do everything. He’ll be on the list soon. He’s been given the all-clear by the doctors."

Building on that, AS reports that Camavinga is targeting a return to action on the field when Real Madrid take on RCD Espanyol later this weekend.

Although his recent training sessions have mostly been individual, the former Rennes player has started working on the pitch at Valdebebas and has even taken part in some ball work with the group.

Within the club, the ideal date for his return to the squad is considered to be the 20th, against Espanyol, provided the player’s sensations are positive.

Real Madrid are acting with caution. After all, Camavinga’s tendency to injuries calls for prudence. His last official match dates back to 23 April, in the away win against Getafe.

24 hours later the worst news was confirmed: a complete rupture of the left adductor tendon, which ruled him out of the Club World Cup in the United States (even though he was called up in the semi-final loss against PSG).

Later, in August, just when it seemed he was nearing the end of his ordeal, a sprain in his right ankle further complicated Camavinga’s recovery, delaying what had looked like an imminent return.

The 22-year-old starlet had been expected back for the match vs Real Oviedo, but the problem grew worse, delaying his return.

But, it appears that Camavinga is on the verge of a comeback and could be back in action later this week vs Espanyol, although it would mean he would miss the Champions League opener against Marseille.
