Real Madrid moved swiftly to secure the signing of Dean Huijsen in June, beating a plethora of top clubs in the race.
The 20-year-old youngster became the most expensive defensive signing made by Los Blancos, with the club splashing €58 million to bring him in from AFC Bournemouth.
In a short period of time, the Spaniard has established himself as a mainstay in Xabi Alonso’s team, fitting like a glove within the new manager’s system and tactical blueprint.
However, along the way, there have been some errors made by Huijsen, which have hurt the team on occasion.
As such, according to The Athletic’s Mario Cortegana, the Spanish international has been asked to work on improving his concentration so that he can fully reach his vast potential.
Real Madrid are extremely happy with how Huijsen has started since his arrival back in June. The feelings around his signing and progression have been very positive.
However, at the same time, there is acknowledgement that the defender has made some errors in matches. He has already accrued two red cards in just 14 matches at the club, while there have been moments when he tends to switch off.
As such, the staff, led by Xabi Alonso, have urged Huijsen to improve his concentration in matches, so that he can continue building on his positive start at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Currently out with an injury, Real Madrid are hopeful about having the 20-year-old centre-half ready and available for Sunday’s El Clasico against Barcelona.
Should he be available, it will be one of the biggest tests for Huijsen in his short time at Real Madrid, and it will be interesting to see how he fares.
