Despite being dealt yet another blow in the form of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s injury, Real Madrid have reportedly decided not to enter the market ahead of the January transfer window.
The club do not plan to sign any players in January as they remain steadfast in the policies that usually see them avoid investing in the winter transfer window.
However, that hasn’t stopped Real Madrid from trying to beef up their youth ranks, with the club notably closing in on signing a youth prodigy from Spain’s lower divisions.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid are on the verge of finalising the signing of Manex Rezola, the 19-year-old sensation from UD Logrones, in the upcoming January transfer window.
The operation is entering its final stages, with Real Madrid prepared to trigger the player’s release clause, set at a modest €150,000.
The plan for the attacking midfielder is clear: he will initially be registered with Real Madrid C but the door will be open for him to move to Alvaro Arbeloa’s RM Castilla if he makes a solid enough impact.
Born in 2006, Rezola is a left-footed attacking midfielder who is equally comfortable operating on the wing.
His development has taken him through several local Basque clubs – Antiguoko, Koxkas, Arrupe, and Vasconia – before exploding onto the scene in his second season at UD Logrones, where he is under contract until 2029.
As per the report, Real Madrid have beaten quite a few Spanish clubs in the race to sign Rezola, including the likes of Athletic Club, Girona, Oviedo, and Osasuna.
Interest also came from second division sides like Cadiz, Sporting Gijon, and Cordoba.
Rezola had even received an offer from Saudi Arabia, but he had no intention of moving to the Middle East so early in his career. Now, he appears set to move to Madrid.
