'Sadness' - Arda Guler reacts to Real Madrid "bullying" accusation

Arda Guler has strongly denied claims made by Turkish football director Serhat Pekmezci regarding the Real Madrid star being "bullied."

A shock allegation was made by Pekmezci on Thursday morning that suggested the midfielder was being harrassed by his teammates.

Pekmezci who oversaw Guler's move to Fenerbahce's youth academy in 2019 spoke about his former player's spell at Madrid. He claimed: "The harassment was coming from the players. There is a group there that hasn’t been able to accept Arda; unfortunately, they are players with very high egos."

Guler hasn't enjoyed the best of times in the Spanish capital and his game time has been inconsistent. He was spotted muttering to himself: "Always me, always me" when he was subbed off in a 4-2 loss to Benfica.

Guler has broken his silence over Pekmezci's and admitted he's saddened by the comments. He wrote on social media:

"I have followed with sadness the recent public statements made by former scouting chief, Mr. Serhat Pekmezci, who played a significant role at the beginning of my career."

Guler added:

"From my very first day, I have been warmly welcomed by everyone within this club, and I have always regarded this place as a family. I am extremely proud to be a Real Madrid player and wish to serve this badge for many years to come."

The Turk concluded:

"We have a very strong team, and I am happy and honored to share the same team with all of my teammates. I kindly ask that no attention be paid to any comments or reports written or spoken on this matter."

Guler joined Madrid from Fenerbahce in the summer of 2024 and there have never been any claims made by the midfielder about such problems with his teammates. He has appeared 35 appearances across competitions this season, posting three goals and 12 assists.

Next up for Madrid is the visit of Real Sociedad at the Bernabeu on Saturday (February 14th). Alvaro Arbeloa's side have had a week to prepare for the match due to not competing midweek in the Copa del Rey.

Los Blancos remain in the title race and are a point behind Barcelona ahead of this weekend's game. A win over Sociedad will see them move above the Blaugrana for at least two days because Hansi Flick's men aren't in action until Monday against Girona.

Guler will likely continue in Arbeloa's starting lineup as he did in the 2-0 win over Valencia last time out. His game time could continue to increase, given Jude Bellingham is expected to be sidelined until April.
