Woodgate dismisses Madrid exit rumours

England defender Jonathan Woodgate has insisted that he is still a Real Madrid player, despite suggestions that the Spanish giants have agreed his sale to Premiership club Middlesbrough.

Woodgate, 27, is currently on a season-long loan at his hometown club after two injury-ravaged seasons at the Bernabeu in which he made just nine first-team appearances following a 13.4-million pound (20.3-million euro) move from Newcastle United in August 2004.

Real coach Fabio Capello is understood to have made it clear that Woodgate, who won his fifth senior England cap in the 1-0 defeat against Spain on Wednesday, does not figure in his plans in Madrid.

Boro are keen to thrash out a permanent transfer for the player and reports in Spain at the weekend suggested that the two clubs had agreed a six-million pound deal for the former Leeds centre-half.

However, Woodgate insists he will only decide on his future once he has completed his loan stint at Middlesbrough at the end of this season.

Woodgate said: "I haven't got a clue where the story came from. I've got a contract with Real Madrid, then all this stuff comes out and I haven't got a clue what's happening."

"All I know is that I've got a contract with Madrid until the end of the season and we'll see what happens then and where I go in the summer."

"Madrid agreed a fee with Middlesbrough at the start of the season, then it all came out that I was going, but I haven't been transferred anywhere."

"I'm a Real Madrid player and I'm on loan at Middlesbrough, so we'll see what happens at the end of the year."
