Zinedine Zidane is said to have contacted the Reds ace.
Reports in France have claimed that Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane phoned Liverpool forward Sadio Mane to discuss a move to the Bernabeu.
According to French publication Soccer Link, Zidane spoke to the Senegalese star and he was keen to make the switch to the La Liga giants.
Although Mane was keen to make the switch to the Spanish capital, club president Florentino Perez wasn’t keen on a deal.
He didn’t believe Zidane needed another winger having already signed Rodrygo Goes and Eden Hazard. Liverpool had a say too and they weren’t willing to do business with Real Madrid during the summer transfer window.
It is little surprise that Mane was wanted by Zidane. The 27-year-old was in sensational form last season netted 26 goals and registering five assists as Liverpool won the Champions League.
Mane signed for Liverpool in 2016, joining from Southampton for £34 million.
Liverpool might not have been willing to entertain flogging Mane but bizarrely it could be a good thing that Madrid are looking at their players.
It certainly represents a clear sign where Liverpool currently sits as a football club.
Gone are the days where the Reds need to sell and gone are the days where Liverpool will be held to ransom by the so-called ‘bigger’ clubs.
This piece could even be idle gossip from a French publication. Even if it isn’t, however, there is no need for Liverpool to panic.
Jurgen Klopp’s team are the reigning Champions of Europe, whilst Madrid finished behind their city rivals Atletico in La Liga last season.
Liverpool will hope that the £100,000-a-week performer gets his head down this season and helps the club towards more silverware.
