Ancelotti points Odriozola and Mariano to the exit door

The club wants them to leave and the Italian has only given them 30 minutes in pre-season.

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is used to being transparent and honest, both in his words and his actions, and that is most certainly the case with his treatment of two players in the squad.

It is clear that he does not count on Alvaro Odriozola (26 years old) or Mariano Diaz (28).

With the exception of Castilla players and Borja Mayoral, who joined later and is closing his move to Getafe, no other Real Madrid player has played less than them, as they each played 30 minutes in the Las Vegas Clasico.

"We arrived with 27 players and some have found it harder to play," Carletto explained in Los Angeles.

Odriozola was returning from his second loan spell in a season and a half, with the right-back position very well covered as Dani Carvajal finished the 2021-22 season at his best, Lucas Vazquez had become a regular there and, to make matters worse, Vinicius Tobias had joined.

In the case of Mariano, the club had unsuccessfully tried to find a buyer for him, and he knew he would not grow in importance even with the departures of Luka Jovic and Borja Mayoral.

However, with a contract until 2024, Odriozola showed up ready to stake his claim and believed that his growth, especially tactically, at Fiorentina had seen him return a more accomplished footballer.

The full-back has been exemplary in terms of professionalism, but Ancelotti has not considered him as an option and he will have to find a new Club.

The outlook for Mariano is not much brighter. Last summer Real Madrid negotiated with Benfica for him, but he was reluctant to move.

He wasn't convinced by any of the other offers, such as Valencia or a late bid from Rayo Vallecano, and it remains to be seen whether or not this particular dynamic will change in the next month.

With a contract until 2023, the main handicap to unblock this issue lies in the striker's salary.

Diaz earns around 4.5 million euros per season, a salary that is difficult for his potential suitors, both in Spain and abroad, to afford.

For example, Getafe and Celta have been fighting to sign Mayoral, with Getafe set to win that battle, but neither have the financial muscle to make a move for Mariano, despite the fact that the Azulones tried to do so in June.
