Manchester City are reportedly plotting a shock move for Trent Alexander-Arnold following suggestions he could move on from Real Madrid.
According to Caught Offside, Manchester City could ponder making a move for Trent Alexander-Arnold as soon as January. The Real Madrid defender, who only joined from Liverpool in the summer, has caused fresh transfer speculation following suggestions that Dani Carvajal could be the preferred right-back for Xabi Alonso.
The business of football transfers may get silly at times, as with this Trent Alexander-Arnold story. The report states that the Real Madrid defender, who only signed from Liverpool in the summer, could be looking to leave the Spanish giants as soon as January.
The report sensationally states that Alexander-Arnold could be looking to get out of Real Madrid as soon as January due to Xabi Alonso’s reported preference for Dani Carvajal. Having started the opening game week win over Osasuna in La Liga, the former Liverpool star was replaced by Carvajal for the second game against Real Oviedo.
The suggestion is that Alexander-Arnold feels he cannot take the starting right-back position from Carvajal. Hence, he’s ready to move on in January, with Manchester City a reported suitor for the Real Madrid defender, as Pep Guardiola likes the idea of having the former Liverpool star in his setup.
Manchester City could reportedly look to make a move for the Real Madrid defender in January and test with a bid of some kind. It’s not clear why Real Madrid would allow such a high-profile player to leave so early in his career at the Santiago Bernabeu, as the whole report stems from speculation after two La Liga games this season.
Should the report turn out to be true, and Manchester City make their move for Alexander-Arnold, he could be a major coup for Guardiola’s side. The Spanish manager has been looking to recruit for the position this summer, following big links to Valentino Livramento earlier in the window.
With Newcastle United not keen to even consider any offers for Livramento, there was no realistic chance for Manchester City to prise him away. That, in part, could have played a role in the club choosing to keep hold of Rico Lewis and offer him a new deal following links to Nottingham Forest, among others, as the Manchester City academy star did come close to leaving at one stage.
