Transfer rumours
Friday 30. January 2026 - 11:49

Real Madrid draw up summer plans with two priority positions in mind

Real Madrid are already laying the foundations for what could be a decisive 2026 summer transfer window, with the club’s internal focus firmly fixed on strengthening two key areas of the squad.

According to a recent report from AS, centre-back and central midfield positions have been identified as priorities as part of a wider long-term strategy.

Despite recent scrutiny following the defeat against Benfica, there is no sense of panic at Valdebebas.

The result has not triggered any shift in planning, nor has it reopened the door to the January transfer market.

Real Madrid remain convinced that making changes mid-season would do more harm than good, especially with major titles still within reach.

The club has therefore shut down any possibility of winter reinforcements.

Internally, the squad is seen as competitive enough to fight for the remaining honours, allowing the sporting department to work without pressure or urgency.

Behind the scenes, however, the planning is already intense, as the current phase is all about analysis.

Sporting directors and scouts are reviewing performance data and future contract situations.

This evaluation period is expected to run until early spring, with March marked as the point when firm decisions will start to be made regarding targets.

What is becoming increasingly clear is that the summer of 2026 could bring notable movements.

In that regard, reinforcing the centre of defence is viewed as a key step, while midfield additions are seen as essential to preserving control and intensity.

Although it is still early, some names have already surfaced during the scouting phase.

In midfield, Adam Wharton has been mentioned as a profile that fits Madrid’s criteria, while Nico Schlotterbeck has emerged as a potential defensive option.

At this stage, these links remain part of the club’s monitoring process rather than concrete negotiations.
